KONG CHEUK WING We 2024 Set of 58 black and white photographic paper 8" x 10" each
At 23, I've traversed seven stages from birth to returning to study in Hong Kong after a stint in mainland China, feeling passive and uncertain about my future. Amidst this, I found solace and friendship with street market vendors, capturing my portraits through their own perspectives on my birthday. Though personally, I perceive equal treatment regardless of gender, I question whether societal norms influence others' behavior towards me as a woman. The exhibition delves into these complexities, pondering the attitudes of male and female vendors towards me and how their actions might differ if I were male. It prompts a deeper reflection on gender dynamics and societal expectations.
